A Tribute to Matthew Honea

READ DESCRIPTION PLEASE Andrew Riddell, 17, and Matthew Honea, 18, were well-known at Olathe South High School for their humor and friendly nature. They spent a lot of time together… For Honea and Riddell, life had meaning. It was never a dull moment with Matthew, said Joe Honea, Matthews father. He was very exciting to be around. They spent time making classmates smile, friends laugh, and their parents proud. I remember one time I told him I was disappointed in him and he was just so devastated, Riddell said. He did everything he could to make us proud and he just never let us down. Last fall, Matthew Honea graduated high school early. He planned to go to culinary school, travel the world on cruise ships, then come home and become a social worker. He was someone who loved life, loved his friends and wanted to spend as much time with them as he could, Joe Honea said. Andrew was close to graduating. He was involved in tennis, baseball and many other activities. He dreamed of joining the US Navy to become search and rescue diver. He was just a great kid, Dan Riddell said. You couldnt ask for a better guy. Monday night, they went to a party. Afterwards, around 1 am Tuesday morning, the teens got into a car with an older friend. That friend was driving them home. Witness told NBC Action News the car was speeding near 151st and Metcalf. One block east, the car crashed into a pole, flipped, then burst into flames. Good Samaritans pulled the driver out alive. KS DUI Commission May Recommend Stiffer Sentencing

Kansas lawmakers will have an opportunity to change drunk driving laws when they convene in January. A special DUI Commission is expected to make recommendations to change state law once it finishes two years of work. Republican Senator Tim Owens of Overland Park chairs the committee.
